Candido, Dias Paes and Matos Ngala wrote an article, “Law and History in Angola: The Collection of Court Cases in the Benguela District Court (1850-1945),” that will be published in History in Africa. In this article, the authors examine the legal records available at the Tribunal da Comarca de Benguela. Court records are rich primary sources to social historians, and much attention has been paid to these types of documents in different African territories. Examining the court case collection available at the Benguela District Court, Candido, Dias Paes and Matos Ngala discuss its strengths and methodological challenges, and present possible themes for future research.
